Scholars Awarded
Research Grants
NEW YORK—Three schol-
ars have been 'awarded
grants of $3,000 each for the
academic year 1974-75 by the
Synagogue Council of Amer-
ica through its Institute for
Jewish Policy Planning and
Research.
The recipients will use the
grant to complete disserta-
tions in fields relating to the
study of contemporary policy
issues affecting American
Jewry.
Geoffrey Bock, a doctoral
candidate at Harvard Uni-
versity, will continue his dis-
seration, "The Effects of
Jewish Education in the
American Jewish Commu-
nity."
Evan Brandstadter re-
ceives the award for his
thesis, "In the Time of Their
Calamity: The Impact of
Anti-Semitism in the Amer-
ican Jewish Community
1917-45."
Eugene Sofer, a student of
Latin American history at
UCLA, will complete his dis-
sertation on "Problems of
Jewish Community, Social
Mobility and Development:
the Argentine Case."
