Winter, president of t h e
American Jewish Committee,
issued a statement of con-
\--_dolence on the death in At-
lanta of Mrs. Martin Luther
King Sr.
He said:: "The American
Jewish Committee joins both
the bereaved King family and
the rest of the civilized world
in mourning the senseless

had hoped that the
wave of political assassina-
tion that took the lives within
a few years of Mrs. King's
distinguished son as well as
of the two Kennedys had
come to an end in our coun-
try. We pray now that this
latest outrage will remain as
an isolated aberrational

M.E. Expert Sees
Kissinger as Willing
to Brutalize Israel
NEW YORK (JTA) — An
American Middle East ex-
pert has charged the Nixon
administration and Secretary
of State Henry A. Kissinger
with willingness to "bruta-
lize" Israel so that a de-
moralized Jewish state would
be willing to make conces-
sions leading to a piecemeal
withdrawal to its pre-June
1967 borders which, under
1974 - conditions, would make
for an even more dangerous
situation in the Mideast.
According to Prof. Gil
Carl AiRoy, of the Middle
Eastern studies department
at Hunter College, Kissinger,
during the Yom Kippur War,
forced a halt to Israel's
"rapidly accelerating devas-
tation of Egypt's military
might" which caused Israel
to be "both frustrated and
demoralized . . . to a degree
that has made her more
amenable to demands for
concessions."
Prof. AiRoy made his
charges in an article in the
inaugural issue of the Bulle-
tin of the National Commit-
tee on American Foreign
Policy, a group headed by

genthau.

victims who came to the
West from Eastern Europe
after the 1965 deadline and
for hardship cases.
He said the talks had been
interrupted by the change of
leadership in West Germany
earlier this year but would
be continued this fall with
the new chancellor, Helmut
Schmidt. Dr. Goldmann said
he was not pessimistic about
a final and conclusive ar-
rangement, but the issue was
far from resolved.
The board re-elected Dr.
Goldmann president of the
foundation. Dr. Arnulf M.
Pins, executive director for
Jewish culture for the past
two years, announced his
resignation at the meeting.
He said that he was settling
in Israel in the realization of
"a lifetime's dream." Dr.
Pins will be assistant direc-
tor general of the JDC-
Malben in Israel.
The allocations agreed to
were the following: training
program for teachers, rabbis
and communal workers —
$350,000; research and pub-
lication — $1,000,000; univer-
sity Jewish studies—$125,000;
educational and cultural pro-
gram — $225,000; scholar-
s h i p s and fellowships —
$350,000.
In addition to Dr. Gold-
mann, Dr. Joseph Schwartz,
former Israeli Finance Min-
ister Pinhas Sapir and Dr.
Solomon Gaon were elected
vice presidents of the Memo-
rial Foundation.
Philip M. Klutznick was
re-elected treasurer; Rabbi
Israel Miller, secretary; and
Shad Polier, honorary secre-
tary.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — A
group of Australian immi-
grants in Israel met with the
Australian ambassador to
discuss that country's re-
ported intention of permit-
ting the Palestine Liberation
Organization to open an in-
formation office in Canberra.
The delegation reported
after the meeting that Am-
bassador Rawdon Dalrymple
stressed Australia's eve n-
handed policy in the Middle
East and said that a request
by the PLO to open an office
in his country would be
treated like similar requests
from the Jewish Agency or
the World Zionist Organiza-
tion.
Dalrymple, who said the
invitation to open a PLO
office in Canberra had been
extended by a private indi-
vidual and that the govern-
ment had nothing to do with
it, refused to discuss the
possibility that terrorists
might receive visas to Aus-
tralia. He said- he could not

that Egypt intends to "evacu-
ate" the Jewish cemetery in
old Cairo within the near
future.
Quoting "private sources,"
the newspaper said Egyp-
tian authorities have inform-
ed the Cairo Jewish com-
munity of the decision with-
out giving any explanation
for the move.
The paper noted that the
cemetery has long been left
added that Egyptian authori-
ties have taken no action
against the thieves and van-
days who continually raid
the cemetery.
