'Commando Army' Recruited to Hit Arab Terrorists on Bases TEL AVIV (JTA)—A for- mer lieutenant in the para- troops is openly recruiting other combat veterans to form a private commando army to attack Palestinian terrorists in their bases across the borders. fense Forces have completed the installation of new secur- ity measures along the sea- front - from the Lebanese border southward. The new measures were taken in response to the Arab terrorist attack in Nahariya in which the terrorists ar- rived by way of the sea. Spe- cial equipment to discover terrorist penetration is in- cluded. In addition, the army has named a special officer to be in charge of the coast area from Acre, north of Haifa, to the Lebanese border. This was revealed during a visit paid to the coastal installa- tion by Gen. Mordehai Gur, chief of staff, and senior of- ficers. Police in Dimona held 44 Arab workers for question- ing after a parcel of explo- sives was discovered on the Dimona-Beersheba bus July 1. Deutsch, United Jewish Charities president, standing, was at the United Hebrew Schools on the second Sunday of the Tay-Sachs Disease screening program to check progress of the project which is funded by a major grant from the charities. He watched with Sinai Hospital coordinator Mrs. Norma Silver and Dr. Hyman Mellen, co-chairman of the project's community coordinating com- mittee, as Federation's junior division president Edward A. Lumberg was being tested by the medical technologist. Lumberg was one of nearly 2,000 persons who gave blood samples during the initial two sessions. The project aims to test the maximum number of Jewish Detroit-area adults of child-bearing age who are of Eastern or Central Euro- pean ancestry to detect possible carries. Sinai Hospital and the Genetic Counseling Clinic of Henry Ford Hospital are the medical facilities cooperating in the screening. Addi- tional testing days will be announced later in the year, according to Dr. Lester Weiss, scienific director of the clinic. Persons wishing additional information about the program or the volunteer duties involved are asked to contact Mrs. Silver's office at Sinai, 272-6000.
