Presbyterian Church Statement Hits Christian Prejudice to Jews

NEW YORK—The Ameri-
can Jewish Committee wel-
comed a proposed new "dec-
laration of faith" by the
Presbyterian Church in the
U.S. that repudiates preju-
dire against Jews "of po-
tentially historic importance
for the improvement of un-
derstanding and mutual ac-
ceptance between Jews and
Christians."
The declaration was adopt-
for study by the general
2.mbly of the 900,000-mem-
ber Presbyterian denomina-
tion, which recently met in
Louisville. The 'declaration,
part of a proposed Book of
Confessions, will be sent to
each of the church's 61 pres-
byteries for study and will
come up for final adoption
at its 1976 assembly. This
is believed to be the first
such statement adopted by
