Reader Hits High Kosher Meat Cost

Editor, The Jewish News,
One essential aspect (of
Jewish communal life in De-
troit) which is pleading to
be aired is the kosher meat
enterprise in this city. The
prices of kosher meat com-
pared to the supermarket
prices are an outrage.
People who know are tell-
ing me that with all .addi-
tional costs of maintaining

kosher meat involved, (kosh-
er meat) should not exceed
more than 10 per cent of the
supermarket price.
It is an undeniable fact
that there are too many Jew-
ish housewives in this city
who are not disturbed to
change to nonkosher meat,
chiefly because of the ex-
orbitant high price of kosher
meat.
The Council of Orthodox
Rabbis in Detroit is the only
body that should control and
have the power (to correct)
this evil chaotic situation,
the exorbitant, uncalled-for
prices of kosher meat.

Automotive Testing Lab-
oratories, Inc. is conducting
an exhaust emission testing
program for the U.S. En-
vironmental Protection
Agency. A $25 U.S. Savings
Bond and the use of a late-
model car during the time
the vehicle is being tested
will be offered to partici-
pants.
It is necessary that the
vehicle sit in the ATL lab
for 12 hours prior to the
test. It is then tested on a
dynamometer at normal op-
erating conditions for about
15-30 miles. Possession of the
vehicle is therefore required
for about 24 hours.
Both test and loan cars are
fully insured. There are no
penalties for failure to com-
ply with a standard. The
program is designed to pro-
vide emission source infor-
mation only. Owners of the
following vehicles are asked
