Resolution Urges
Aid to W. Africa
Phil Henshaw
A call for Congress to fur-
nish aid to the drought-
crippled nations of West
Africa approved in a concur-
rent resolution of the Michi-
gan Legislature, noted that if
the world community does
not act, "the famine and
disease will be catastrophic."
The worst drought in 60
years has hit the countries
of Senegal, Mauritania, Mali,
Upper Volta, Niger and
Chad. The United Nations
has declared it a disaster
area.
The resolution memorial-
ized Congress to furnish
necessary material and trans-
port in conjunction with the
UN Food and Agriculture
Organization to bring relief
to those nations.
