National Ruling Lets New Category of Veteran Into JWV Thousands of Jewish vet- erans inducted into the armed forces after Dec. 31, 1960, are now eligible for membership in the Jewish War Veterans, according to a new ruling by the national judge advocate of JWV. The ruling states that _any- one serving in an active duty status in the armed forces subsequent to that date and meeting all other eligibility requirements for member- ship must be considered eli- gible for JWV membership. This applies to an individual who enlisted under a reserve training program — six months' duty after which he is released to complete a re- maining obligation of five years and three months. Members of the JWV na- tional executive committee had sought to limit eligibility to those who did receive or were entitled to receive medals awarded by the arm- ed forces. They contended that active duty for training (the reserve program) did not constitute active duty for purposes of eligibility. In a second judge advo- cate's ruling, it was declared that JWV posts cannot di- vulge their membership lists for use by other organiza- tions, whether for fund- raising solicitation or airy other reason. d___.
