NEW YORK — For the first time, a delegation from the American Sephardi Fed- eration — the organization of Sephardic Jewry in the U. S. — participated in the recent World Sephardi Fed- eration meeting in Geneva, where plans for activating world Sephardic Jewry to help Israel and Jews in Arab lands were adopted. It was announced that a $100,000,000 fund to help Is- rael's Oriental Jewish fami- lies solve their housing, edu- cation and welfare problems and to train social workers will be set up by the govern- ment, the Jewish Agency and the World Sephardi Federa- tion. Federation President Nis- sim Gaon suggested that the WSF raise $1,500,000 from the world's Sephardi commu- nities to help needy Sephardi families abroad, strengthen educational and spiritual re- sources in the Sephardi Dia- spora, and help endangered Sephardi communities to come to Israel__ The presidium called upon the U. S. and the civilized world as a whole to bring pressure upon Arab nations, particularly Syria and Iraq, to end the inhumane perse- cution of their Jewish popula- tions and to allow them to leave freely.
