He has published several articles and received a PhD from HUC in June 1972. His dissertation was on "The Jewish Population of America, 1850-1860: a Demo- graphic Study of Four cities." Roosevelt to succeed Dr. Cyrus Adler as representa- tive of Judaism to advise the President on steps for world peace. Dr. Finkelstein continues to serve as Solomon Schech- ter Professor of Theology on the faculty of the seminary's rabbinical school. He was the fourth president of the sem- inary. Dr. Gerson Cohen suc- ceeded him to the presidency three years ago. Newton N.
