Flint to Mark Solidarity Sunday '74
With Rally on Steps of State Capitol

The Flint Jewish Commu-
nity will participate in Soli-
darity Sunday '74 with Jew-
ish communities from
throughout the state June 2
in Lansing. The theme for
the day is "Freedom for
Soviet Jews — only you can
make it happen."
Plans have been made for
bus service for religious
school youngsters. Children
at Temple Beth El will board
a bus at 12:30 p.m. from the
temple, and Cong. Beth Is-
rael students will board a
bus at 1 p.m. at the syna-
gogue. The bus will proceed
to Cong. Shaarey Zedek in
Lansing and then join a
caravan to the steps of the
Capitol Building for a pro-

gram. The bus will return to
Cong. Beth Israel at about
6 p.m.
Youngsters will need a bag
lunch, and a parent permis-
sion slip to ride the bus. The
Solidarity Day committee
will provide drinks.
Hy Klein, chairman of the
community relations commit-
tee, asks "that parents take
the time to join in with their
children in Lansing to stand
in support of the rights of
Soviet Jews and be a visible
protest against the abomina-
tion of terrorism.
Students participating in
the "Fast For Freedom," a
7th through 12th grade fund-
raising event, beginning 8
p.m. June 1 and continuing

through 7 p.m. June 2 also,
will participate in the "Soli-
darity Day '74" in Lansing,
where they will break the
fast.

BB to Honor
Louis .Kasle

Bnai Brith Flint Lodge will
honor Louis Kasle at its sec-
ond annual dinner-dance 7
p.m. June 9 at Country Squire
Restaurant. Dinner will be
served at 8.
There will be an installa-
tion, awards presentation and
dancing following dinner.
The entire community is
invited. There is a reduced

Named for Camp

Mrs. Beverly Siegel, direc-
tor of the Flint Jewish Com-
munity Council's Camp Mac-
cabee, announced the ap-
pointment of Marla Stone as
arts and crafts specialist for
the camp this summer.
Mrs. Stone attended Mott
Community College majoring
in art. She has worked for
the past two years in the
Mott Community education
program as a pre-school art
teacher. Mrs. Stone has also
taught in the enrichment pro_
gram for grades kindergar-
ten through 6 in various
schools throughout the city.
Mrs. Siegel announces
males are needed as coun-
selors in training and junior
and senior counselors. CIT
age limit is 15, and 16- and
17-year-olds may apply for
junior counselor. High school
graduates will be considered
for counselors. For applica-

"The whole town changed,"
she said. "Suddenly it be-
came very foreign.' All the
Portuguese were very, very
happy, but they weren't sure
why. They had no idea what
was going to happen, they
just knew there was free-
dom."
Miss Levey has since re-
turned to finish her senior
year at the university. She
plans to return to Portugal
following graduation.
