AJComniittee Focus on Ethnic Health
NEW YORK — Elmer L.
W i n t e r, president of the
American Jewish Committee,
announced the creation of a
national project on group
identity and mental health
as part of the committee's
work in meeting the needs of
varied ethnic groups in the
U.S.
The project, a two-year
pilot program funded by the
Maurice Falk Medical Fund,
will be part of the commit-
tee's national project on
ethnic America. Irving M.
Levine is director of the
ethnic America project.
Joseph Giordano, former
Oneen Regional Director of
New York Department of
...atal Health and author of
"Ethnicity and Mental
Health," will be the new
project's director.

In his announcement, Win-
ter said that the project
would focus the attention of
mental health practitioners
and researchers on working-
class white ethnic communi-
ties, with an emphasis on the
ethnic factor in mental health
problems. The project will
explore multi-ethnicity, iden-
tity, the family, the neighbor-
hood, the role of women, and
working class differences in
mental health service utili-
zation.
EILAT (ZINS) — Two new
missile-firing vessels have
joined the Israeli fleet at
Sharm-el-Sheikh after a suc-
cessful shakedown cruise
around the African continent.
The ships were built in Is-
rael, with construction taking
several years.
Military experts said this
addition to Israel's fleet
creates an important shift in
the balance of naval power.
Because of insufficient naval
strength during the Yom Kip..
