Kissinger Differs
With Schlesinger

WASHINGTON (ZINS) —
An Israeli newsman reports
that the noted American pro-
fessor of political science,
Amos Perlmutter, told him
there are fundamentally di-
vergent viewpoints on U.S.
policy vis-a-vis Israel held by
Secretary of State Henry
Kissinger and Defense Sec-
retary James Schlesinger.
Whereas Kissinger is the
great champion of detente,
Schlesinger is said to incline
toward the view of Senator
Henry Jackson for greater
firmness in dealing with
Moscow.
Schlesinger sees detente as
nullifying America's deter-
rent power, according to
Perlmutter. The U.S. secre-
tary of defense is convinced,
says the report, that the
Soviets have exploited detente
to their one-sided advantage
in order to beef up their
military potential. The Yom
Kippur War demonstrated, in
Schlesinger's view, the supe-
riority of Russian-made
weapons, at least as far as
conventional warfare is con-
cerned. Schlesinger opposes
any further concessions to a
Kremlin bent on imperialistic
expansion.
Prof. Perlmutter predicts
that, despite their surface
harmony, the underlying con-
flict of views between Schles-
inger and . Kissinger must in-
evitably lead- to an open
clash. If this occurs, Kis-
singer will have to give
ground, according to Perl-
mutter, who regards Schles-
inger's standpoint as more
helpful to Israel's „interests.

NEW YORK — Nahum
Amos, a heavy equipment
operator, was wounded in the
palm of his hand during the
Yom Kippur War and lost
the use of his fingers. To
regain movement, so that
he could do his job, Amos
went for daily physiotherapic
treatment at the Sheba Hos-
pital in Tel-Hashomer.
Every day, a physiothera-
pist exercised Amos's para-
lyzed fingers for almost an
hour. But now he straps his
injured hand to an instru-
ment made of copper and
plastic tubes, which, with the
help of water flow from the
faucet, activates his fingers.
The instrument, unique in
Israel and perhaps in the
world, was devised and built
by two ORT Technical Col-
lege students, Ron Linwill of
Ramat Gan and Amit Limoni
of Givatayim. They con-
