His co-workers will join in greeting and honoring him on his 60th birthday, May 17. Dr. Fill, whose scholastic achievements date lack to the Hebrew education he re- ceived in Poland in his child- hood — a knowledge he treasures — has been active in many communal causes, in behalf of Yeshiva Univer- sity, Bar-Ilan University and other movements. Born in Stolin, Poland, May 17, 1914, Fill received his elementary school educa- tion in his native city. He was brought to Canada as a youth and studied in the high schools of Toronto and Wind- sor. With. BS and BM de- grees from Wayne State Uni- versity and the University of Wisconsin, he received his medical degree from Laval University, Quebec City, in 1942. Dr. Fill pursued post- graduate medical studies at the University of Michigan and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. During World War H, Dr. Fill was a surgeon in the .European Theater and re- ceived three decorations for his participation in amphi- bious invasions in Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. He also received the Front Line Medical Badge, Bronze -Star and Purple Heart, the latter after being wounded in ac- tion. He retired from . the U. S. Army Medical Corps with the rank of captain. Dr. Fill is president of several corporations, owns hospital properties and serves on the board of direc- tors of Doctors Hospital and Lakeside Medical Center in Detroit. He is chief of ob- stetrics and gynecology at Lakeside, Doctors and Plym- outh General hospitals. He has been honored by the Michigan State Medical Society, Wilberforce Univer- sity and Yeshiva University for his service to the com- munity. Dr. Fill has funded many scholarships here and in Israel and has served the Jewish Welfare Federation as a member of the capital needs committee, committee on housing for the elderly, Detroit Service Group and campaign chairman of the Allied Jewish Campaign health service section. He has been to Israel frequently and joined the Prime Minis- ter's Mission in August 1973. Active in politics, Dr. Fill was elected to the Michigan State Board of Education in 1964, and served as its vice president for two years.
