gency Fund dinner, an-

Condition
Worsens

JERUSALEM ( JTA )—The
condition of former president
Zalman Shazar, who is at
Jerusalem's Hadassah Hos-
pital, was described as seri-
ous. Hospital authorities said
that he had suffered a gen-
eral setback, including a de-
terioration in the condition of
the heart.
Shazar, 84, was taken to
the hospital May 2 with in-
ternal bleeding.
Prime Minister Golda Meir
visited him on Monday after-
noon.'

1935 to 1950, died May 1 at
age 71. He was a novelist,
playwright and a former
publisher of the New York
Post.

Backer went to Europe sev-

In the 1930s, he wrote
with S. N. Behrman a play
called "The Scant Pint" and
witih Samuel Chotzinoff a
play called "Honeymoon."
In 1966 he had published a
noval, "Appearance of a
Man."
