LISTENING
POST

THE SAYING "Like pick-
ing apples" holds true even
in a recreational atmosphere
. . . with Ramblewood Swim
and Tennis Club located in
an apple orchard where fam-
ilies hold picnics . . . Ramble-
wood, which officially opens
its 16th year with an open
house, May 19, 1- to 4 p.m.,
has two swimming pools, a
baseball diamond, volleyball
and tennis courts . . . and
even an open-air restaurant
which operates 'daily .. . Its
on Nine Mile Road between
Halstead and Haggerty Rds.
in Farmington . . . More info
on the open house doings can
be gotten from Les Kutinsky,
626-4343 or Phyllis Brickner,
353-5234.
IMAGINE A GAL being
made to look different every
day . . . with just a few
swoops of the hair . . . Shila
Morganroth at Headquarters
Beauty Salon in Southfield
has the secret . . . and it's
her own method . . . called
Sun Shading . . This very
(unusual and most compli-
mentary gig is quite amazing
. . . using a composite of
hair colors to compliment a
person's face . . . and a
woman can do it herself after
Shila shows her how . . .
ROASTING AND TOAST-
ING of Mitchell Newman by
Knights of 'Pythias, Detroit
Lodge 55 gave honors to a
most deserving guy . . . Too
bad the program was so
poorly planned . . . Mitchell
deserved much better, . . .
Any person who holds the
record of bringing in mem-
bers to an organization . . .
or of never saying "no"
when a charitable cause is
involved, should receive an
evening worthy of his giant
deeds . . . not one where
stale jokes and ad lib flubs
take the place of careful
planning . . . About 60 fel-
lows 'showed up . . . and
there was barely enough food
to go around . . . Guys like
Bernie Mond and Herman
Weberman worked very hard
and put on the feed which
was quite good . . . even
though not ample . . . Too
bad they didn't have a corm.
mittee to work with them
. . . and give Mitchell New-
man the evening he should
have had . . . Yet, Mitchell
might have done something
good again . . . His affair
could be a sample of what
the lodge should never do
improperly!
1974 INSPIRATIONAL
BALL for St. Jude Research

Quarter ... with Edna Slavik
(Joe) as chairman . • . Cock-
tails are set for 6:30 and din-
ner at 8 ... as comedian Red
Buttons, songstress Jodi Kell-
man and Warren Covington,
playing music made famous
by the late Tommy Dorsey,
give out for Danny Thomas'
pet charity . . . Co-chairmen
are Ann Herro (Ray) and
Betty Baughman (Walt) .

tended by wife Rose, chil-
dren, grandchildren, family
