El Al Israel activities were
reported here this week by
Benjamin Hershkovitz, the
Detroit district El Al man-
ager.
"In spite of the Yom Kip-
pur War and the energy
shortage, we have reached
the $1,000,000 volume this
year," Hershkovitz stated.
He said that Christian tours
are among those arranged
here, a major one recently
having been that conducted
by the Rev. Raymond N.
Saxe of the Ann Arbor Grace
Bible Church.
appreciation
Expressing
for the cooperation of the
travel agents, Hershkovitz
said "the safety record of El
Al, the security precautions,
the modern equipment of the
747 Jumbo jets, have enabled
us to many new marks in
our activities. Furthermore,
the Jewish communities, not-
ably Detroit, know that Is-
rael must not stand alone
and that by flying El Al they
help Israel."
Of the 5,000 who traveled
abroad last year from De-
troit, 2,400 were on El Al
flights, Hershkovitz said. He
expressed confidence that
the 3,000 goal for 1974 will
even be exceeded.

Michigan Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation will gather May
15 at Mercy College to hear
Dr. Arnold Lazarow, head of
the anatomy department at
the University of Minnesota,
speak on "New Hope for
Diabetics Through Re-
search." Dr. Lazarow has
been researching diabetes
since World War II.
Henry Guttentag is presi-
dent of the foundation, which

juvenile diabetes as its goal.
The executive board of the
foundation is composed of
parents of diabetics and
adult diabetics.
According to a report from
t h e foundation, 10,000,000
Americans suffer from dia-
betes, and it accounts for
35,000 deaths annually. Dia-
betes is attributed as an
underlying cause of heart

SALON
557-0606
It seems everyone is hav-
ing more parties these days.
Tired of the same old chips
and dip? The "American
Heart Association Cookbook"
tells how to make even ap-
petizers a nutritious venture
into good eating. (These fla-
vorful meat balls taste even
better when made a day
ahead and reheated before
serving.)
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 cup water
clove garlic, minced
tsp. ginger
1 lb. lean ground beef
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In
a large bowl, combine soy sauce,
water, minced garlic and ginger.
Add ground beef and mix lightly,
but thoroughly. Form into balls
about 1 inch in diameter. Arrange
on a lightly oiled baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
Spear with toothpicks and serve
from a hot chafing dish. YIELD:
about 32 meatballs.
