By HEIDI PRESS Tour guide Uri Ne'eman and his wife, Esther, have been kidnaped by a Hunting- ton Woods couple for a very unselfish reason—a quickie tour of Detroit and a friendly visit. The Ne'emans are in the U. S. on a six-week, all- expenses-paid tour provided by clients they had befriend- ed during Ne'eman's 24 years as a tour guide in Is- rael: Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Miller of Roycourt Ave., brought the Ne'emans from Chicago. The Israelis' sched- ule was so jam-packed that friends had to bid for time to entertain them. The subjects of "Project Mission Impossible," the Ne'emans were surprised in February when two clients, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Ansell of Sherman Oaks, Calif., wrote to them of the unusual gift. According to Ne'eman, who prefers to be called Uri, Mrs. Ansell conceived the idea during her last visit in Is- rael. She secretly copied the names of Uri's. clients from his scrapbook and contacted about 70.80 of them about her plan. Uri and his wife were hosted by clients in Cali- fornia, Arizona, New Mexico, Chicago and Detroit. Friends are awaiting their arrival in Virginia, Washington, D. C., New Jersey and New York. The father of two sons, Dani, 18, who is serving in the Golan Heights, and Gadi, 17, who will soon be drafted, Uri is employed by the Gat Tour Co., specializing in "tailor-made tours." A native of Czechoslovakia, he went to Palestine in 1931 and served with the Jewish settlement police under Orde Wingate during the riots of the '30s. He also served with Hagana, the British army in World War II, in the War of Independence and in the Sinai Campaign. Although he volunteered for service in the Six-Day and Yom Kippur wars, he was not allowed to fight "because I was too old," he said. Asked which nationality group he most liked to host on tours, Uri immediately replied "Americans." "There is no one like Americans. They are inter- ested, curious, always make a promise to come back and they always come back." However, when they do re- turn, they are no longer clients but friends, he said. Uri, who met the Millers during their first trip to Is- rael 15 years ago, took his first plane trip to come to the U. S. Although the flight did not frighten him, he and his wife admitted to some fright when flooding caused a five-hour delay in their train trip between San Fran- cisco and Portland, Ore. All of the passengers had to be evacuated. But for that incident, Uri was impressed with Amer- ica. "I am overwhelmed by American hospitality," he said. "It is a tribute to Is- rael, which I represent."
