Presented traditionally at the annual dinners of the Detroit Friends, the Yeshiva University Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor for community leader- ship bestowed by Yeshiva U. Dr. Samuel Belkin, presi- dent of Yeshiva University, in a letter to Allan recalled that he is the grandson of the late Rabbi Rachmiel Cohen, whose "name shines so brightly in the annals of Yeshiva University" as a pioneer in the early 1900s devoted to the support of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theo- logical Seminary, the insti- tution from which the present university complex has de- scended. "This relationship is more than a mere point of bio- graphical interest," said Dr. Belkin.
