Carlebach, an ordained
rabbi, expresses the varying
moods of Jewish religious
life, in his songs. He accom-
panies himself on the guitar
and introduces most of his
songs with parables or leg-
ends.
Carlebach attended Colum-
bia University and the New
School of Social Research
and is working on his doctor-
ate while studying the life of
hasidic rabbis.
The Hass Fund, created by
Arthur Hass, honors the
memory of his wife Sophie
Knocking, as a profession,
Hass, past president of Tem-
ple Israel Sisterhood, and is a badly overcrowded field.
