A MEN'S WIG THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A WIG! NEED MONEY •I • • . 4 4 e 4 ; Reaction to October War on Microfilm Chancellor Joseph Wirth who named the Jewish scholar foreign minister. Rathenau was the great German pa- triot, but it did not gain him the recognition of the Na- tionalists. The Lorant story relates how the "racist press ranted; its vulgar ditties as- sailed Chancellor Wirth and his foreign minister. The Schwarzwealder Volkswacht printed the 'poem': "Go and get at Joseph Wirth Break his head until it `klirrt' Kill off Walter Rathenau, That goddamned no good." The haters' purpose was acknowledged and Rathenau was assassinated in Berlin: "His killers were two young blond-haired and blue-eyed, the type so attractive to him in private life." Wirth called for a cleans- ing of "this atmosphere of murder, rape and poison." He t old the Reichstag: "There stands the enemy, and there can be no doubt— the enemy stands in the right." The answer, so well known, was, as the story unfolds, the increase in rightist crimi- nalities. Lorant reviews the many episodes which led to the triumph of Nazism. Illus- tratively, the Lorant story de- picts the horrors as they de- veloped in the pursing years. All the criminals are listed in the book and the evidence of all the crimes is part of the text: In its totality it is not a "seig heil" but another in- dictment of Hitlerism and fascism.
