Levin in Race for Governor

With supporting campaign
organizations already estab-
lished in more than 60 Michi-
gan communities, S a n d e r
Levin, former state senator
and former chairman of the
Michigan Democratic Organi-
zation, Monday formally an-
nounced his candidacy for
governor.
Lashing out at Governor
William Milliken, who will be
his opponent in the Novem-
ber election, Levin, in his
announcement at his home in
Berkley, blamed Milliken for
the rise in taxes and for links
with the Nixon administra-
tion. He challenged: "Where
was the governor when
Nixon was putting together
the phases and freezes that
nearly wrecked the American
economy?"
Levin already commenced
his campaign in a number of
Northern Michigan communi-
ties.
Levin said he is opposed
to cross-district bussing. I
