Abraham Regelson,- distin-
guished Hebrew poet and
novelist, who recently 'won
the Bialik Prize for Hebrew
Literature, has added another
volume to his voluminous col-
lection of short stories.
"Beit Hanitzotz" — "House
of the Spark" — is replete
with legends that fascinate
the young Hebrew readers
and serve splendidly in en-
riching the Hebrew knowl-
edge of students of the lan-
guage who have already ac-
quired an introductory ac-
quaintance with Hebrew.

`Lamentations' Brought Up to Date

The destruction of the First
and Second Temples of Jeru-
'Salem, the Spanish Inquisi-
tion, the anti-Jewish pogroms
of Czarist Russia arid the
Nazi Holocaust are evoca-
tively linked in a new edition
of the biblical "Book of
Lamentations," illustrated by
Mark Podwal and published
"by the National Council on
Art in Jewish Life.
Podwal's drawings for the
new "Lamentations" — pub-
lished in a limited edition of
2,000 to sell at $10 each and
a deluxe edition of 100 at $60
each — sometimes directly
illustrate the text and some-
times parallel it, using later
tragedies in Jewish history
to illuminate the biblical
poetry.

diers are seen carrying off
a Sabbath candelabra, for
example, opposite a portion
of the text that reads:

The adversary has spread out
his hand upon all her treasures,
For she has seen that the heathen
have entered into her sanctuary,
Concerning whom Thou did com-
mand that they should not enter
into Thy congregation.

Illustrating other passages,
the Grand Inquisitor laughs
mockingly at the distress of
the Jews, as does Czar
Nicholas II; Babylonian
winged lions wear gas masks
and swastikas; an 18th Cen-

tury spice box becomes the
tower of massacre in the city
of York during the crusade
of Richard the Lion-Hearted.

Diamonds Reported
Missing in 2 Flights
