More than two decades of
Alfred L. Deutsch's com-
munal services are receiving
acclaim on the occasion of
his 60th birthday, occurring
on April 13.
Presently president of the
United J e wish Charities,
Deutsch has to his credit
many important posts in the
Jewish' community, in busi-
ness and civic activities.
As a former chairman of
the Detroit Allied Jewish
Campaign, as an active parti-
cipant in the work of the
Jewish National Fund and
numerous other causes, he
has held leading positions
here.
His interest in the Jewish
National Fund was high-
lighted in his chairmanship
of last year's JNF annual
dinner at which Dr. and Mrs.
I. Jerome Hauser were hon-
ored with a forest in Israel.
Simultaneously; Mr. and- Mrs.
Deutsch also planted a forest
on- JNF land in Israel and
were present at the dedica-
tion of the forest in Kiryat

his JD degree from the De-
troit College of Law in 1937
and became a member of the
Michigan State Bar that year.
During World War II,
Deutsch served (1942-1946)
as an officer in the U. E.
Army Finance Department.
He and his wife, the former
B e r nice Rosenberg, have
three sons, 'Robert, Dennis
and Morris. Robert is mar-
ried to the f ormer Carol
Cohen of Atlanta.
Deutsch was one of the
founders of Citizens Mortgage •
Corporation in 1946 and is
now chairman of its execu-
tive committee. He is also
chairman of , Citizens Mort-
gage Investment Trust, a
company listed on American
Stock Exchange.
Deutsch was founder, in
1947, of American Savings
Association. He was, in turn,
treasurer and then president
of, the association. In 196,
he became and is still chair-
man of the board.
In 1963, Deutsch was elect-
ed president of the Michigan
Savings and Loan League,
the industry association in
this state. He was a director
and vice-chairman of the Fed-
eral Home Loan Bank of In-
dianapolis and has been a
member of the board of di-
rectors of United States Sav-
ings and Loan League.
Deutsch has been a mem-
ber of the board of directors
of United Hebrew Schools,
FreSh Air Society, TB and
Health Society, and was gen-
eral chairman of the Allied
Jewish Campaign in 1967,
and general chairman of the
Allied Jewish Campaign Is-
rael Emergency Fund in
1968.
He was president of Cong.
Bnai Moshe in 1953-1955, and
is still a member of the syna-
gogue's board of directors.
Besides being president of
the United Jewish Charities,
Deutsch is a member of the
executive committee of the
Jewish Welfare Federation
and is a member of the fi-
nance committee of Sinai
Hospital. He is a member
of the board of overseers of
the Jewish Theological Sem-
inary of America.
His parents, the late Mr.
and Mrs. Adolph Deutsch,
were active in Jewish com-
munal affairs. His father
distinguished himself in con-
gregational matters, as a
president of Bnai Moshe, in
philanthropies, and was ac-
tive in banking.
