LISTENING

"What about a commercial
about Temple Israel?" asked
Rabbi M. Robert Syme . . .
Judges Kaufman and Joe
Pernick, Rabbi Syme and
Milton Maddin were at the
head table being honored as
33rd-degree masons . . . Milt
gave a Temple Israel "com-
mercial" with address and
directions . . . And went on
to introduce Perfection
Lodge's newest 33rd, Rabbi
Syme . . . "That was a beau-
tiful talk," said Rabbi Syme.
I'm so sorry you quit when
you did and that my wife
wasn't here."
Recalling his learning the
secret word for entrance into
Masonry, he told of the late
Dr. Jack Jackman "teaching
me in Yiddish so my wife
wouldn't understand." . . .
About religion in regards to
Masonry, Rabbi Syme told
of speaking at a church con-
y e r sion meeting: "That's
where non-Jews stand up and
`I convert,' whereby Jews
stand up and say, 'I pledge.'
" . . . When he was called
in Boston and told of being
elected a sa 33rd-degree ma-
son, Rabbi Syme told his wife
. . • "33rd? That means 67
more to go!" (33rd degree is

post with the Oak Park Court
Office to become a mother

station . . . and the attendant
refused to put any petrol in
her car . . . The guy said
her tank was on the other
side and it was too much
trouble pulling the hose over!

tions realize the so-called
crisis won't last forever .. .
and that people have mem-
ories? . . . After all, we folks
aren't imbeciles just because
we drive cars!
