800 'Mein Kampf'
Reprints Taken by
Dutch Authorities
Letters to Editor
AMSTERDAM (JTA)—Po-
lice authorities have seized
800 reprints of Hitler's "Mein
Kampf" in Dutch about to be
distributed in the Nether-
lands.
The copies were confiscat-
ed from the small Dutch pub-
lishing house, "De Ridder-
hof," on the basis of a Dutch
law prohibiting the stocking
of works that incite racism.
The publishers have prom-
ised to recall the 3,000 copies
of the book already distribut-
ed in Belgium..

Remounting. Jewelry- & Watch Repairing:
Editor, The Jewish News:
Permit me to register a
protest against glorification
of Isaac Bashevis Singer and
his works, and especially to
express resentment that
synagogues' cultural - com-
missions give him a plat-
form.
There is no question but
that he is a master writer.
He knows the art of writing
and the techniques, but as to
the contents, that is another
matter.
He specializes in three
subjects: sex, pornography
and the picture of Jews in
the worst color possible. In
the latter category, his writ-
ings can be compared to
those of Streicher and Kich-
ko, who delight in causing
the Christians to hate the
Jews. -
I shall give • you a few
excerpts from Singer's works:
The story called "A Pair"
is dedicated, •(and I quote)
"To the Holy Memory of My
Friend, Aaron Zeitlin, Bless-
ed Be His Memory." It is
about Getzele, a little-bit of
a man, with a little beard,
a crooked nose, crooked eyes,
dressed in an outlandish
fashion, and nobody could
understand his speech nor
his writing. But our author
finds one redeeming feature
in him. He was married
three times to beautiful
women and had 'many har-
lots.
Another story is titled:
"Three In A Room." In this I
one, a wife invites her
woman friend into her bed
and makes her own husband
to conjugate with the friend,
in her presence. This makes

the wife very happy; how-
ever, I don't know if she
was as happy as the one
who wrote it with such vivid
descriptions.
Another story is about a
shoihet having affairs with a
woman on the bloody floor
of the slaughter house.
Another example is a story
about men and women who
deal in white slavery.
To top it all, during Feb-
ruary, The Forward printed
in four installments another
story called: "Not For Sab-
bath." I don't think any anti-
Semite ever portrayed Jews
worse than Mr. Singer does
in this story.
I might add, that when our
speaker describes all the evil
his characters do, and can-
not think of other crimes
they can commit, he kills
them.
Now, I understand that our
women are great admirers
of our speaker because they
read or heard that English
critics praised his writings.
They don't realize that the
reason these critics praised
his works is because they
want to read how a Jew,
writing about his own people,
portrays them as though they
are the scum of the earth.
Spring
But let the women please
note how he writes about
you, as women. He depicts
women in a most unfavora-
ble light; for invariably in
his stories, as soon as a man
and woman meet, it is the
woman who invites the man
to go to bed with her.
Certainly it is not an hon-
est portrayal of the consid-
eration and respect accorded
our women in Jewish life.
I would go so far as to say
that it is a "betrayal" in
every sense of the word, of
our Jewish womanhood.
Singer writes for a Yiddish
paper, but a newspaper is
like a department store, cat-
ering to all kinds of people.
The fact that synagogues in-
vite him can only mean to
hini that his writings have
their approval.
I would recommend that
our Cultural Commission
read what the late Jacob
Glatstein, Mordecai Strigler
and Elie Wiesel, three out-
standing Jewish writers,
wrote about Singer's stories.
Maybe our synagogues
then will realize the harm
they do to the Jewish people
by condoning the writings of
this author.

Isaac Singer's Writing Is Assailed
But the Gentile convert has
other hurdles to overcome.
He seeks to alter the status
of his birth. This cannot be
done "with halakhic require-
ments."
Those who are committed
to Torah welcome every Jew

willingness to embrace the

his own life-style.

WASHINGTON (ZINS) —
The United States Embassy
in Tel Aviv has notified
Washington that pork has
risen to a "rather astonish-
ing" 30 per cent of Israeli
meat production.
The agricultural attache,
in a report on livestock, noted
that pork is forbidden food
for Jews and Moslems, who
constitute most of the popu-
lation, and cannot be sold in
major metropolitan areas.
Officially, the report noted,
the pork is destined for the
Christian communities. "If
this were true, the per capita
consumption of pork alone
would be around 175 pounds
for every Christian during
19'73," the report said.

`Invite a Stranger
for Pesah Dinner'
Editor, The Jewish News:
Passover is just about upon
us. It is one of the nicest hol-
idays of the year. Each of us
only thinks of who to invite
and what to serve. I. have
often wondered if we thinl
of the quotation from the ser-
vice, "Let he who is hungry
come and take Passover with
us." What it does not say is
"Let he who is lonely take
Passover with us."
Yes, in the Jewish com-
munity there are loads of
people young and old that do
not have anyone to visit for
the holiday. You, the Jewish
community can help. Open
your homes to those who
have no one to visit.
Check the Home for the
Aged or contact any univers-
ity. To have a Jewish student
