Dulzin Challenges Jewry: Double
Israel Population in 25 Years
NEW YORK (JTA) — A
more than doubling of the
population of Israel during
the next 25 years from
3,000,000 to 7 or 8,000,000 was
urged by Leon Dulzin, acting
chairman of the World Zion-
ist Organization, in an ad-
dress at the national board
meeting of the American
Zionist Federation.
Speaking at the conclusion
of the two-day conference of
the 700,000-member coordi-
nating organization of the 13
American national Zionist
groups, Dulzin said that this
is the outstanding challenge
now facing Jewry both in Is-
rael a n d throughout the
world.
Declaring that Israel's pop-
ulation had grown five-fold
from 600,000 to 3,000,000 in
its first 25 years of state-
hood, he said: "This increase
of population, as large as it
may seem at first hearing, is
attainable.
"It will require three fac-
tors: personal aliya, increas-
ingly large contributions to
provide such emigration
from the United States and
the other countries of the
Diaspora and improved ab-
sorption methods 'in Israel."

BEERSHEBA—In order to
reconstruct the ancient city
of Beer Sheva which dates
back to the period of the
First Temple and was uncov-
ered recently in excavations
of Tel Beer Sheva, a large
number of specially baked
bricks is needed.
The bricks must be baked
in a special oven where heat
rises gradually. This can be
achieved only by using wood
as tinder.
The Negev Museum re-
quested the Jewish National
Fund to obtain wood which
piles up as a result of prun-
ing. The fund agreed to ful-
fill the request.

of Russia's 2 or 3,000,000
Jews may be expected to
emigrate, if allowed, during
the coming quarter century.
"In addition to the Russian
Jews," he said, "aliya from
America and the other coun-

also a large number of North
Africans, recently settled in
France, who may wish to go

Dayan Says
136 Israelis Still
Missing in Sinai
JERUSALEM (JTA)—De-
fense Minister Moshe Dayan
told the Knesset that 136
soldiers were still missing on
the Egyptian front.
Searches by army chap-
laincy squads together with
Egyptian men and Red Cross
delegates were continuing,
he said, answering parlia-
mentary questions.
By this week, 243 bodies
had been returned from that
front, Dayan said, 104 by the
Egyptian army — exhumed
from temporary burial
grounds — and 139 which had
been located by the mixed
search squads.
Dayan said there was full
cooperation between the two
sides and each tried to fulfill
the other's requests on return
of bodies. He hoped it would
be possible to make similar
arrangements with Syria —
but so far the contacts with
the Syrians through the Red
Cross had been unsatisfac-
tory.
Specially trained police
dogs loaned by Scotland Yard
are assisting the tripartite
(Israeli - UNEF - Egyptian)
teams trying to locate the
remains of soldiers who died
in the Sinai.
Grove in Memory
of Slain Journalist
LONDON (JTA) — A grove
of 1,000 trees in memory of
Nicholas Tomalin, the British
journalist who was killed
while reporting the Yom Kip-
pur War on the Golan Heights
for the Sunday Times, was
planted by the Jewish Na-
tional Fund of Great Britain
and Ireland.
A plaque on the site of the
grove will serve as a me-
morial to Tomalin. A replica
of the plaque and a certifi-
cate were presented to the
widow, Claire Tomalin, by
Cecil Bianco and Dr. Isaac
Levy, president and director
of the JNF, respectively.

Hitler-Era Journal
Brings Large Sale
BONN (JTA) — The new
Hitler-era magazine, "Das
Dritte Reich," published by
the John Jahn Verlag in
Hamburg to "explain the
social, political and economic
background" of the Hitler
phenomenon, is "selling like
hot cakes," news agents re-
port.
The magazine is bought
mainly by young people of
school age, and by elderly
people. People between these
two age groups are not much
interested, news agents say.
