Security Problem Forces WJCongress Out of The Hague NEW YORK (JTA)—A World Jewish Congress assembly scheduled for next month at The Hague has been canceled because of possible security problims for Dutch government. Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the WJCongress, declined comment on --- reports that the Dutch government had requested the cancellation. He did say that the expected 500 delegates from 65 countries scheduled to attend the sessions from April 28 to May 6 would have filled the hotels in The Hague and would have required additional housing in hotels in Rotterdam which, he said, would have created security problems. Dr. Goldmann said the meeting will be held in Miami but that no date had been set. The parleys are held every five years. Dr. Goldmann announced that the Congress governing council will meet in Switzerland at the end of April, and will, among other matters, discuss further arrange- ments in connection with the postponed assembly. Sol Drachler, who directed the campaign in the past four months, announced that a total of $23,298,037 had already been subscribed as of that evening by 20,429 contributors, and he estimated that another $780,000 is expected from 3,500 more donors who are to be contacted in the coming weeks, thus assuring the estimated $24,078,000 total. All division chairmen reporting the unprecedented gifts in this year's drive gave assurances that the work will go on until every prospective donor is reached. Impressive evaluations of the campaign's objectives and the urgent needs were made by Israel Ambassador Simha Dinitz; Paul Zuckerman, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, the major campaign beneficiary; the campaign co-chairmen, William Davidson and Lewis Grossman; William Avrunin, executive vice president of the Jewish Welfare Federation; and the heads of 'divisions reporting at the impressive dinner that was attended by 500 volunteer workers in the current drive. Presenting Zuckerman to introduce the Israel ambassador to the U.S., Grossman said that the national UJA • chairman is "a catalytic agent who has inspired us to do what was to be done. We always felt his presence and we responded." Zuckerman spoke of his close friendship with Dinitz, and he said that the ambassador's personality has been a valued asset in support of Israel. "Mr. Dinitz understands the A, merican people," Zuckerman said. "He has shown a remarkable alertness in his diplomatic activities. He has earned the respect and admiration of leaders in the American government." Zuckerman said that at the meeting he and 15 other national Jewish leaders had with Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Washington on March 13, Kissinger often referred to the Israel ambassador as "Simha." He quoted Kis- singer as saying that "Golda gave Simha a quota of seven calls a day to report to her on American developments." In his address, Dinitz said that the next day after that Kissinger meeting .with the Jewish leaders, he had Deuteronomy 15:7-11.
