friends laid-off, neighborhood

Issue Universal
WASIMINGTON, D. C. —
"Veterans organizations un-
derstand that it is not just
the future of Israeli prison-
ers of war in Syria that is at
issue; it is the rights of all
prisoners of all wars, past
and future, that is being
tested," the father of an Is-
raeli soldier held prisoner in
Syria told leaders of veter-
ans organizations.
Three members of the ad
hoc Committee of Parents of
Israeli PW/MIA's in Syria,
all of whose sons were on
the list finally secured by
Secretary of State Henry
Kissinger, spoke at the Jew-
ish War Veterans national
headquarters. They called
for "the exchange of prison-
ers, not a list."
Lt. Col. Irwin Ziff, USAF
(ret.), assistant executive di-
rector of JWV,_ repeated the
Israelis' request for help in
bringing international public
pressure , to bear on Syria, in
the form of indiVidual letters
to government officials and
through whatever connec-
tions individuals or organiza-
tions may have.
Stressing that this is a "hu-
manitarian issue, far beyond
political or ethnic consider-
ations," Col. Ziff compared
it to the U.S. struggle to ob-
tain lists and release of her
sons in Vietnam prison
camps.
