NEW YORK — The Israeli
National Basketball Team,
after a stay of 23 days in
this country, returned to Is-
rael the winner of eight
games out of 12.
Nat Holman, president of
the United States Committee
sports for Israel, which spon-
sored the Israeli basketball
tour, was elated over the
showing by the Israelis -who
were snatched out of the ar-
my and patched together into
a unit of 12 players. Holman,
who watched the team in ac-
tion four times, obesrved:
"Under the circumstances
and conditions in which this
team was selected and col-
lated, I think that the Israel
Basketball Federation should
be extremely satisfied with
the fine record the boys corn-,
piled against good college op-.
postion in the States. He said
he took "great delight in the
play of Captain Itamar Mar-
zel, who, in my humble esti-
mation, has the makings of
a pro. Itamar was flown from
the Suez the night before the
boys departed for the States
and just made the morning
plane which carried his team-
mates here."
Chaim Glovinsky, presi-
dent of the Israeli Basket.
ball Federation, said this
marks the third time that
the U.S. Committee Sports
for Israel has underwritten
a tour of the United States
for Israeli basketball teams,
"and I believe under the try-
ing conditions involved, that
this has been the most suc-
cessful of our three tours
throughout the States.
Holman indicated that it is
the intention of the U.S. Com-
mittee to sponsor additional
trips for some of Israel's na-
tional teams iri_ a variety of
sports.

tories which may be evacu-
ated. This reform is widely
interpreted as a first step
toward participation in
Geneva.
However, it seems that
Arafat and his colleagues
still would prefer to take a
direct part in any negotia-
tions with. Israel. They are
prepared; though, to give
their blessing to a Pales-
tinian delegation comprised
of West Bank and Gaza Strip
notables.
Such a solution suits the
Jordanians, too, for they
have close ties with -these
people. So Hussein will dis-
cuss with Egyptian President
Anwar Sadat the possibility
of wide Arab backing for
such a delegation.
Several leading notables
already have been consulted
about the idea. Among them
fornier chairman of the Jor-
danian Parliament, Hikmat
el Masri of Nablus, and the
former mayor of Gaza,
Rashad el Shawa. They re-
fused, however, to make any
statement of their own posi-
tion before the deal is settled
by the Arab leaders across
the border.
