Mrs. Edith Kahn, a per-
sonality of note in the De-
troit community, died Mon-
day at the age of 89.
She was one of the grand
ladies of Detroit's Jewish
community and had been ac-
tive in major causes.
With her husband, the late
Moritz Kahn, she had been

Gottlieb, a founder of the
New York School of abstract
expressionism and a major
figure in American art for
more- than 30 years, died
March 1 at age 70.
Mr. Gottlieb, whose paint-
ings are included in the
permanent collections of the
Museum of Modern Art, the
Whitney Museum of Ameri-
can Art, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art and the
Brooklyn Museum, was
known for his "burst" paint-
ings. These works included
sunlike orbs suspended over
_exploding masses of red and
black against a light field.

Robert Hystzer,
of Insurance Firm

Robert I. Hystzer, owner
of the Northern Fire Insur-
ance Co., public insurance
adjusters, died March 3 at
age 45.
Born in Minneapolis, Mr.
Hystzer, 24030 Morton, Oak

troit. He was a member of

Comedian and Actor

NEW YORK - Harvey
Stone, a comedian and actor,
died March 1 aboard a cruise
ship in the Bahamas at age
61. Mr. Stone made his rept' ,
