have to be well-informed on
everything in the country,"
Martin said.
Martin talked about the
process of making aliya. To
begin, prospective olim go
to the Israel Aliya Office,
where information is dis-
seminated on jobs and types
of absorption centers and
ulpanim available to meet
the individual's needs. Pilot
trips are offered to prcfcs-
sionals seeking job inter-
views.
The oleh is met by an ab-

where he will live for five-
six months. Here, he will
learn Hebrew and about Is-
rael, and he will be assisted
in finding an apartment and
job.
"You don''t always get a
job that you want or an
apartment where you want,
but you always get some-
thing," Martin said.
When thl six months are
over, the oleh is on his own
and is entitled to all the
benefits available to new
olim. These include bringing
cars and other items into
the country duty free, and
paying a reduced income tax
or none at all. Benefits for
students include tuition
scholarships and even spend-
ing money.
Martin will be in the De-
troit area through March 31,
attending meetings in syna-
gogues and private homes,
where he will speak and
show films on aliya and the
Yom Kippur War. For infor-
mation, call Martin or the
