Duke Wayne Goes
East for Western

'Coalition Dispute
Hurt Diaspora'

NEW YORK—Actor John
Wayne will soon be gallop-
ing on the wide open spaces
of the Negev as soon as ne-
gotiations are completed for
his new film, "Candy's Man."
Zev Braun, head of the
production company who is
negotiating with Wayne, said
the movie "deals with a West-
ern lawman who comes to
Palestine in 1902 to compete
in an international, mara-
thon horse race and then be-
comes involved in Middle
Eastern intrigues when his
lady, 'Candy' (Candide), is
kidnaped by Arabs,"
Braun's company, which
has been in production since
1963 has built a Western
town 20 miles from Tel Aviv
where several films have al-
ready been shot. He said he
hopes "Candy's Man" will
be done after "Carombola,"
a Western starring Jack
Palance.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — The
prolonged and protracted
negotiations over the forma-,
tion of a new coalition as
well as the internal crisis
that accompanied the nego-
tiations had an adverse affect
on the Diaspora Jewry, ac-
cording to Leon Dulzin, act-
ing chairman of the Jewish
Agency.
Addressing a luncheon
meeting here of the. Engi-
neering Club, he added that
leaders of the Zionist move-
ment who attended the Ac-
tions Committee meetings
here two weeks ago left the
country in a very low spirit
as a result of the present
situation in Israel.
They could not grasp why,
when Israel is under a state
of emergency, the leaders of
the country cannot rise above
internal rifts and from a
united front to strengthen the
nation and raise its morale,
Dulzin said.
As to the question of Who
is a Jew, he said it is a
question for the whole Jew-
ish nation to discuss, not
merely a question for coali-
tion conditions.
