a Highlight of April Tour
Dr. Eli Shapiro, general
chairman of the Flint United
Jewish Appeal Campaign,
who with his family will lead
a special study mission to
Israel during Passover, said
the mission will provide "a
singular opportunity to wit-
ness first-hand - the present
state of the people; to be-
come acquainted and in-
volved with Israelis of all
generations, person to per-
son, and to rediscover our
ancient roots.
"Now, more than ever be-
fore in the life of the people
of Israel, there is a need for
unity, for a great gesture of
oneness, for a coming to-
gether of the entire Jewish
people. This is our chance at
redefining our Jewish iden-
tity and enlarging our com-
mitment to ourselves and to
the people of Israel," Shapiro
said.
Mission highlights will in-
elude meetings with military
and political leaders, Kaba-
lat Shabat at the Western
Wall and a Passover seder
with new immigrants at an
absorption center.
Mission dates are April 4-
18 with an optional return
on April 15.
A deposit, payable to the
Flint Jewish Community
Council, is due March 15.

Israeli Tells
Reporter: the
Euphoria's Left
The euphoria experienced
by Israelis after the Six-Day
War has vanished, and in its
wake is the realization that
"the limitations of other
mortals apply to the Jews of
Israel as well."
So states Allan It. Wilhelm,
Flint Journal editorial writer,
who recently spent two weeks
touring Israel with a group
of American journalists. In
the second of his series of
reports carried in the Jour-
nal, Wilhelm noted:
As one former American
told the journalists:
"You have come to an Is-
rael which was a nation of
supermen in the Six-Day
War, and it is a terrible
thing to discover that you
are not supermen . . . it is a
terrible discovery to find out
that the war would not last
only three days, that the war
would last 18 days and then
still be ongoing," Rosen ex-
plained.
"It is a terrible thing to
discover that the Arab sol-
dier, who should have been
frightened when he was con-
fronted with that big muzzle
of your tank gun, did not run
away but shot you down with
a little thing that he carried
on his shoulder . . .
"It is a terrible thing to
discover that you are a small
nation. and we have discov-
ered that we are a small
nation, and we have discov-
that we can't tell the United
States and Russia to go to
hell, and that we have to
listen to them."

for Israel Reauires
Constituent Backing'
Ken Wollach, assistant di-
rector of the American-
Israel Public Affairs Corn-
mittee in Washington, listed
several concerns facing Is-
rael in his talk before a
group of concerned Flint
citizens last week.
Many of these concerns
deal with the uncertainty of
Washington's future position
on Israel. He affirmed the
need for the administration's
political and economic sup-
port, specifically financial
aid for 1974-75. He also
warned of political moves
by the major oil states to
destroy Israel.
Wollach urged letters, tele..
grams and phone calls to
representatives and stated
that Congress needs the
backing of constituents on
controversial issues.
