The Center will adjust membership dues for fami- lies or individuals whose economic or special circum- stances would preclude par- ticipation. Among those honored were Ricky Leib, who notified the fire department in time to keep a neighbor's home from burning down; Kenneth Pos- ner. president of the South- field-Lathrup High School's student congress: Paul Schwartz, for work in ecol- ogy and legislation: JoEllen Passman, for youth leader- ship; and Howard Serling, for work with teens and senior citizens. Three young former Bir- mingham residents have bought the Pick-Fort Shelby Hotel, which reopened Satur- day with an accent on youth. Renamed The Shelby Hotel. or The Shelby for short, Jay Ross, and his sisters, Neena and Vivian, all in their 20s, bought the hotel from the Albert Pick Hotel Corp. for $300,000, down from the or- iginal $850,000, asking price. Arranged by their father, Herman Ross, a successful real estate owner, -the three plan to point the hotel to a youthful market. Jay Kaufman is manager, Alexander Pollock, director of Detroit's Merchant Assist- ance Program, is assisting in the decor of the hotel. Stewart Linden of Westland Ave., Southfield, is accepting 'applications from young adults age 21-35 who are interested in serving as leaders for the 1974 summer scouting program to be held June 20-Aug. 11 in Israel. Mrs. Linden is a repre- sentative of the Synagogue Council of America Commit- tee on Girl Scouting and vice president in charge of product sales for Girl Scouts of Metropolitan Detroit.
