THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

For the first time in 20
years, the opening Passover
seder will fall on a Saturday
night (April 6). This will
mean special procedures for
the observant, who cannot
prepare for a Saturday night
seder on the Sabbath.
The Council of Orthodox
Rabbis has issued the follow-
ing guideline to assist in
preparations:
Thanit Behorim (Fast of
the First-Born): Since fast-
ing is not permitted on the
Sabbath, the fast is moved
up to Thursday, April 4. The
Siyum, when done, takes
place after the morning serv-
ice.
Bedikat Hametz (search for
the unleavened): It is per-
formed in the usual manner
on Thursday night, April 4.
Hametz must be burned Fri-
day morning April 5, before
11:30 a.m. but the "Bitul" is
not recited until the corre-
sponding time Saturday morn-
ing, April 6. Leave only
enough halla to be consumed
for two Sabbath meals. Sale
of hametz must be completed
on Friday, April 5. Recom-
mended time for Tefilla on
Shabat no later than 7:30
