The anniversary dinner of
the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis and Vaad HaIr 6 p.m.

area, Toledo, Windsor, and

man of the dinner, which will
mark the 45th anniversary
of the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis.
The only fund-raising affair
of the year, its proceeds help
support council (Vaad) serv-
ices, including kashrut super-
vision, information on kosher
products, family counseling,
chaplaincy for aged, safe-
keeping of vital religious rec-
ords, library for reference
and study and publications of
bulletins and brochures.
The council also is pre-
pared to convert p r i v a t e
kitchens to kashrut, at no
cost.
One service rendered by
the Vaad throughout the year
is that of the Beth Din, the
final word in all matters re-
lating to Jewish law, mar-
riage, d i v o r ce, adoptions,
conversions and dietary laws.
Its three judges also settle
disputes and litigations be-
tween individuals and organi-
zations within the Jewish
community. Before entering
this court, both parties sign
a document stating that they
will abide by the rabbis'
decision.
The Beth Din resolved 59
litigations and 63 divorce
proceedings' during the past
year. It was instrumental in
bringing to • completion 18
adoptions and nine conver-
sions.
