Danny Raskin's LISTENING VINCENZO'S POST Italian-American Cuisine Herbert Appleman of New York, newest member of the Oakland University Depart- ment of English, joined the faculty this winter to teach a course in imaginative writ_ ing for the theatre. Appleman's qualifications include an EMMY award in 1965 for ". . . . And Suddenly You're Alone," and a New York Television and Film Festival Silver Medal in 1966 for "A Simple Case." Both were television documen- taries. He won the 1971-72 American Playwright's Thea- ter Contest for his play, "A Perfect Gentleman." Appleman wrote pre-1960 radio scripts for the "Bob and Ray" show, and he later joined CBS-TV, first as a public affairs writer, then as a writer of documentaries. He- is now concentrating on screenplay writing. His credits include 18 tele- vision plays and documen- taries. One play, "Unfair to Goliath," was produced off- Broadway. He has had one book, "When Two Becomes Three," published by Holt, Winston and Rinehart. Appleman had previous teaching experience in the division of adult education at New York University. He holds a BA degree from Harvard University, an MA from Columbia University and he has held a special playwriting fellowship at Yale University School of Drama.
