The Israel Award scholar- ships have been provided by the Nathan and Meyer Fish- man Family Foundation for students age 15-18 in a Jew- ish high school in the tri- county area. Committee members in- clude Dr. Samuel Krohn, chairman. who is past pres- ident of Cong. Shaarey Zedek and the Jewish Community Council; Bernard E. Linden, past president of Temple Is- rael and president of the board of governors, Reform College of Jewish Studies; Rabbi Irwin Groner of Cong. The Harrison High School Choir from Farmington per- formed for the junior high and high school recently. Among the eighth grade's fund-raising activities were bagel-selling, and the sale of popcorn and other snacks. The students are planning a musical-dramatic production of "Pygmalion" and "My Fair Lady." The ninth grade will show "The Poseidon Adventure" 2 p.m. Sunday at the school. There is an admission charge, and the public is in- vited. Teen Project Blends Work With Travel NEW YORK—High school students wanting to spend seven weeks in Israel, con- tributing directly to the peo- ple and the land and not just as tourists, are invited to look into the ORT Youth Fel- lowship (OYF) summer-work project. Sponsored by Women's American ORT, OYF began last year as a national youth movement designed to strengthen Jewish identity through contact with ORT students around the world and as a volunteer service organization. The summer program is an integral part of OYF but is open to non- members. Highlights of the trip in- clude four weeks of renovat- ing or constructing buildings, parks or museums, where such skills as welding, the use of power tools, machine repair and landscaping will be taught. Time will also be spent liv- ing with the families of ORT high school students and ex- cavating at an important archeological site. Delegates from ail over state will begin registration today for discussion of the conference theme, "Halakha (Jewish Law) and Sexual Mores." Following Shabat dinner in the homes of members of Temple Israel families, del- egates will attend Sabbath services at the temple. Rabbi Daniel B. Syme, as- sistant director of education for the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, will speak on "A Challenge to Be Authentic." Saturday morning, Rabbi Syme will keynote the Shabat session, which will follow a creative service by MSTY members. Dan Levin, MSTY president from Temple Erna- nu-El, Grand Rapids, will de- liver the sermon. Workshop sessions, socio- dramas and discussions will highlight the conference pro- gram, which closes noon Sun- day. At a board meeting in Jackson, MSTY agreed to contribute funds to the De- troit Action Committee on Soviet Jewry for the "adop- tion" of a Jewish family in Kiev. Patricia Proctor of the United Farm Workers, de- scribed the plight of migrant workers and asked MSTY's support of the lettuce boycott. Camp Gan Israel Registration Open Fraidel Segal, Mishkan Israel nursery teacher, an- nounces that applications are being accepted for the spring semester, now under way. Nursery hours are 12:30-3 p.m., Monday through Thurs- day. The program includes a free-play period, arts and crafts, m u s i c, language, snacks and a weekly Shabat party. Outdoor play is held as weather permits. A drive will start to raise money for a playground. The nursery has doubled to more than 20 since September, and a kindergarten is planned for next September.
