Questioned tn • • Dramatizat i on Were Julius and Ethel Ro- senberg guilty beyond a rea- sonable doubt of conspiring to commit espionage? Or did they die in the electric chair as innocent victims of a "climate of fear?" A television dramatization of the 1951 trial suggested that the Rosenbergs, the only Americans ever to be ex- ecuted in peacetime for the crime of treason, were con- victed without sufficient evi- dence that they had betrayed atomic secrets. The Monday night ABC Theater presentation "Judg- ment: the Trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg," was di- rected by Stanley Kramer and starred Alan Arbus and Brenda Vaccaro as the Ros- enbergs. Herschel Bernardi por- trayed Emmanuel Bloch, the attorney who tried, in vain, to prove that the prosecution's star witness, Ethel's brother Da v id Greenglass, lied to save his wife, Ruth. Green- glass was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the case. The courtroom scenes in- cluded the actual words of the defendants, lawyers and Federal District Judge Irving Kaufman. Twenty-three appeals could not save the Rosenbergs, who spent two years on Sing Sing's Death Row. Quotes from their letters to each other and to their two young children were included to emphasize the Rosenbergs' devotion and their dignity in the face of death. One solution to the energy crisis is a bus pool. Jerry Naftaly, a senior at Wayne State University, thinks he may have solved the problem for commuting students and faculty — but first, he needs the bus. Naftaly, 23621 Kenosha, Oak Park, said he has the names of 150 area residents who work in the Wayne State area and wish to corn- muite daily from the suburbs. He says he has been prom- ised the cooperation of Oak Park city officials in pro- viding a bus stop for the shuttle service. Although most respondents to his plan are from Oak Park, other adjacent areas could be serviced from the Oak Park base, said Naftaly, eivry on the All" This Week's Radio and Television Programs a member of a Wayne State University task force sub- committee to study the en- rollment and energy crisis. If sufficient interest is shown in the project, Naftaly said, the Southeast Michigan Transportation Authority will provide coaches, routes, time schedules and promotion. But more names would be welcome on the list. For information, those who would like to join the pro- gram or who know of a bus available, may leave the message for Naftaly at the Oak Park municipal offices, LI 7-1331.
