Mission Joins Hands With Israeli Kin
It was a "family reunion"
for the Flint delegation who
visited Israelis on a just-
completed mission.
Richard Krieger, Rabbi and
Mrs. Gerald Schuster, Mr.
and Mrs. Burton Bloom, Mrs.
Benjamin Epstein, Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Epstein, Hy Klein,
Mrs. Philip Silberman and
Allan Wilhelm, an editorial
writer for the Flint Journal,
participated in the mission.
Hy Klein, chairman of the
Jewish Community Council's
community relations commit-
tee summed up the feelings of
the group:
"The Israelis are looking to
us for support, and when we
visit them in Israel it is a
feeling of family reuniting. It
is a need they have to see
that they are not alone, but
that they are joined in unity
by the Jews of the world.
There is also a need that we
have to identify and under-
stand this joint struggle for
Jewish survival. We owe it
to ourselves to be in Israel
with them. We owe it to them
to be in Israel with them."
The mission took along
items contributed by the peo-
ple of Flint. These included a
skin graft expander for the
Central Burn Hospital in
Beersheba, donated by Dr.
Eugene Becker. Many sol-
diers who survived the tank
battles suffered severe dis-
figurements; medical serv-
ices and supplies may help
give them a chance for a
normal, healthy life. The
Jewish War Veterans Auxili-
ary, the Asher Marders, Leon
Roskys, Jack Stanzlers and
others contributed a suitcase
filled with woolen hats, ther-
mal underwear, gloves and
face masks for the use of
Israeli soldiers in the snows
of the Golan Heights.
The mission reported that
a feeling of hope is returning
to Israel, "but the hotels still
echo in emptiness, and the
shopping areas are not bust-
ling with the crowds of past
years. This awareness fills
the streets of Tel Aviv and
