Kotik, 38, an engineer and researcher, mov ed f r om Russia to Israel with his wife and infant son less than a year ago. Russian authorities waived the "ransom" for his immigration following a show of public demand from other countries. Born and educated in Russia, Kotik attended the Polygraphic Institute, depart- ment of technology, and also did post-graduate work there. In 1970 he received his candi- dates degree in technology, the Russian equivalent of a PhD. In Israel, Dr. Kotik and his family learned Hebrew in an absorption center.
