Local Teen Finalist
in Region Contest for
Junior Achievement

Mark Grinblatt, 17-year-old
of the J. Eli Grinblatts
, ernon Ave., Oak Park,
has been named one of 10
finalists for the title of Mr.
(and Miss) Executive of
Junior Achievement of South-
eastern Michigan. Mark was
one of 68 contestants in five
regional contests and will
compete for the Southeastern
Michigan title Feb. 1 at the
Sheraton Cadillac Hotel. His
co-winner from Region 3 is
Bridget Marshall, daughter
of the S. L. A. Marshalls of
Birmingham. Mark, presi-
dent of the Little Wayne
Oakland Bank, is a 12th
grader at Berkley High
School.

Fishman Foundation to Present
Israel Award to Five Students

Rabbi Irwin Groner, chair-
man of the Synagogue
Schools Association of Metro-
politan Detroit, announces
that the Meyer and Nathan
Fishman Family Foundation
will present a $1,000 Israel
Award to each of five out-•
standing high school students
who will visit Israel next
summer.
The Meyer and Nathan
Fishman Family Foundation
1974 Israel Award will be
administered by the Syna-
gogue Schools Association,
the organization of indepen-
dent congregational schools
in the community. The award

from 31 chapters gathered to

Windsor, led a session on the
future of the state of Israel
and its importance to the
Jewish people, while Norman
Moss, attorney and Jerry
Clifton, station manager of
WDRQ radio, led sessions on
"Law Morals and Lifestyle."

award is open to all who at-
tend Jewish high schools in

tation Authority (SEMTA),
discussed with the conven-
tion body mass transit and
its future in metropolitan De-
troit. Special guest at the
convention was Jan Roths-
child of Trumbull, Conn; in-
ternational BBG president.
The convention also fea-
tured regional competition in
national and district BBYO
contests. Contest winners
were: AZA oratory, David
Rosen of Rose AZA; BBG
youth forum, Fran Braun of
Kadima BBG; AZA storytell-
inq, Jeff_ Lowenthal of Rose
AZA; and BBG storytelling.
Maureen Weisserman of
Kadima BBG. The annual
AZA song contest was won
by Herzl AZA, Windsor, while
the BBG Song Contest was
won by Glazer BBG. .
In a t h l e t i c competition.
Rose AZA won the basketball
tournament, while Posen AZA
took the ping.pong champion-
ship. Disraeli BBG won the
girls' volleyball tournament,
while Masada BBG won ping-
pong championship. The win-
ner in AZA howling was
Herzl AZA, Windsor, and
Dalva BBG, Livonia, won the
BBG tournament.
Talent show winners were
Goode AZA, first place:
Sporn AZA. second: and
Dreyfus AZA and Masada
BBG tied for third. Best AZA
chapter newspaper award
went to Herzl AZA, Windsor:
Aliya BBG won for best BBG
chapter newspaper.
Most Distinguished Chapter
awards for best participation
in the convention went to
Rose AZA, with honorable
mentions to Goode AZA,
Sporn AZA, and Herzl AZA,
Windsor: and to Kadima
BBG with honorable mentions
to Ahava BRG, Disraeli BBG.
Masada BBG and Lazarus

N obel Laureate to Be Speaker Here

The Detroit chapter of the
American Technion Society
will host a program meeting
8:15 p.m. Jan. 31 at the
United Hebrew School build-
ing in Southfield.
Dr. Kenneth Arrow, re-
cipient of the 1972 Nobel
Prize in economic science,
will be guest speaker. Dr.
Arrow is professor of eco-
nomics at Harvard Univer-
sity.
David D. Kahn, newly
elected president of the De-
troit Technion Society, will
be installed by Henry Taub,
national president of the
American Technion Society.

Taub, a major benefactor of
the Technion in Haifa and a
vice president of the society
for several years, joined his
Mother in the presentation
of a $400,000 gift for the con-
struction of the Taub Com-
puter Center at Technion
City.
