Jewish Leaders Hear Kissinger Ad Brings Job to Woman Cantor NEW YORK (JTA) — A group of Jewish leaders had a "warm and cordial" meet- ing recently with Secretary of State Kissinger in his Washington office, according to Jacob Stein, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish organizations, one of the par- ticipants. Stein said the "full and frank" discussions dealt with all issues related to the Mid- dle East situation. He called the meeting one of a series between Jewish leaders and key government officials. Also attending were Paul Zuckerman, general chair- man, United Jewish Appeal; Max Fisher, former presi- dent Council of Jewish Fed- and Welfare Funds; Rabbi Israel Miller, chair- man, American Zionist Fed- eration; Raymond Epstein, CJF president; Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, president, Ameri- can Jewish Congress; David Blumberg, president, Bnai Brith; Louis Cole, president, National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council; and Rabbi Louis Bernstein, president, Rabbinical Council of America. Also attending were Mel- vin Dubinsky, president, Uni- ted Israel Appeal; Rabbi Ju- dah Naiditch, president, Rab- binical Assembly; and Rabbi Alexander Schindler, presi- dent, Union of American He- brew Congregations. Leonard Garment, counsel to Presi- dent Nixon, participated in the meeting, Stein said. e= rya Ychefeezity and eiziJacciate4 (Colony Accents, Incj SPECIALISTS IN WALL DECOR — UNUSUAL DECORATIVE ACCESSORIES • COMPLETE INTERIOR DECORATING SERVICE ti Semi-Annual Sale Begins Sun., Jan. 13 I OPEN 10:30 to 5:30 Save 15% to 50% All upholstered Floor Sample Furniture, 25% to 50% off ALL TABLES, LARGE MIRRORS AND LAMPS, 20% to 50% OFF All Large Paintings and Pictures 20% to 50% off CUSTOM MADE FURNITURE Make an appointment now with a decorator. NEW YORK—When Hilda Abravaya was engaged for her first cantorial post, she reportedly was the only worn- an cantor in New York State. She may be the only cantor to have obtained a post through a situation-wanted advertisement in a daily newspaper. It is ironic that the oil weapon should be wielded so stringently by Saudi Arabia, with which the United States has a long-standing bilateral treaty guaranteeing each partner most-favored-nation treatment. This means at the very least that neither country will exact of the other trade terms harsher than those demanded of any third power. This provision is flagrantly and totally violated by the current Saudi Arabian em- bargo against the United States. So much for the trustworthiness of treaties with the Arab countries. The Arab states cannot drink their oil; neither can they eat their dollars. For their fantastic wealth to have economic meaning, they must be able to purchase the goods and services provided by the industrial nations. A concert- ed policy of withholding those commodities from coun- tries that embargo or re- strict fuel production is the only rational response to the wildly escalating demands by Arab rulers. If these policies are not adopted shortly, we can look forward to more extortionate price increases — preceded, no doubt, by extortionate pol- itical demands intended to disguise and make respect- able a policy of crude, bla- tant and apparently limitless profiteering. tute of Religion, in New York.
