The Shalom, which had been built for the Zim Lines, was a victim of the shift to NEW YORK—Gen. Avra- ha m Yoffe, a retired top Is- raeli military official who suf- fered a mild stroke while on a lecture tour here, was kept waiting for an hour in Mount Sinai Hospital's waiting room It's Nice To Deal With Joe Slatkin's DEXTER CHEVROLET 20811 W. 8 Mile between Southfield S Telegraph 534-1400 Our Promise To You: BETTER SERVIKE! air travel and was sold to the German Atlantic Line. Now, the Shalom-renamed- Hanseatic has been sold again, to the Robin Shipping Corp. The latter recently signed over two other liners to the Soviet Shipping Co., and it may be that the old Shalom will meet the same fate, observers said. Man's Particularity Every person born into this world represents something new, something that never existed before, something or- iginal and unique. It is . the duty of every person in Is- rael to know and consider that he is unique in the world in his particular character and that there has never been anyone like him in the world, for if there had been someone like him; there would have been no need for him to be in the world. Ev- ery single man is a new thing in the world and is called up- on to fulfill his particularity in the world.—Martin Buber. because he didn't have the money with him for a pro- jected stay. Dr. Harry Jaffe, a cardi- ovascular specialist who was called in to treat the general, insisted that although Yoffe should have been admitted to a hospital, his case was not critical, and he had no objection to the general's waiting until a bed was avail- able. Dr. Jaffe said the hospital was at fault for asking for the $3,080 hospital fee in ad- vance. As a foreign visitor, Gen. Yoffe was not covered GEN. Officials said that they would allow the fires to burn for another week to reduce underwater pressure in the wells. Estimates of the loss re- sulting from the fire have been put at 15 per cent of Abu Rodeis' total output and up to 20 per cent of Israel's annual oil consumption esti- mated at IL 1,000,000 a day. Pumping from the undam- aged offshore and inland oil wells was intensified, mean- while, although Israeli ex- perts expressed fear that the entire offshore field would have to be abandoned until the fire was put out and the damage repaired. Repairs will require new platforms and pipes to replace those wrecked by the fire. Israel was awaiting the ar- rival of specialists from abroad in putting out offshore oil well fires. Foreign help was called for last week but apparently there were delays in locating the men needed. A preliminary investigation has ruled out sabotage, and no casualties were reported. The fire, sending flames and smoke hundreds of feet into the air, swept over several oil rigs and platforms in the shallow waters off the Sinai shore. There are 20 off-shore wells at Abu Rodeis, which was captured from Egypt in the 1967 Six-Day War. The field is operated by the Israel government - owned Netivei Neft oil company which invested $3,500,000 in the offshore drilling. The off- shore oil is superior to that produced by the inland wells. Abu Rodeis has been supply- ing some 60 per cent of the 17,000,000 tons of oil Israel consumes annually. All of it is refined in Israel. Israeli engineers have be- gun surveying for new oil sources to replace the Abu Rodeis losses. The Israeli government has approved a budget of IL 137,- 000,000 to establish wells, fol- lowing favorable reports on the existence of new petrol- eum deposits by a team of geologists. The finance min- istry is negotiating with a group of foreign investors who had expressed keen in- terest in participating in the venture with capital and knowhow. The director of the hospital, Dr. S. David Pomrinse, de- fended the hospital. "We're not in the business of refus-. ing patients, but we have to have some kind of policy to insure an adequate cash in- flow." He said he believed that other hospitals had the same policy. According to Seymour Kashner, a first cousin of the general, who had accom- panied him to the hospital, there never was any ques- tion of not having money.
