JERUSALEM—Talley Beat-
ty, American-Negro choreo-
grapher, came shortly before
the warclouds gathered.
He was teaching at • the
Haifa Institute of Dance Arts
when the school closed, so he
went on to his next undertak-
ing — to choreograph ballets
for the Batsheva Dance Com-
pany.
One of the Batsheva danc-
ers was killed in the fighting.
Three others are still in the
army. But two new members
—one from Sweden and one
from the U. S.—arrived in
time to make Beatty's "Dome
of Heaven" possible.
This ballet has American-
Negro dancer William Lou-
ther, artistic director of the
Batsheva company, as lead.
Paul Sanaisardo, noted
American-Italian dancer-chor-
eographer, had arranged to
come and create ballets for
the Bat-Dor dance company
—for the third time in Octo-
ber.
When the war broke out, all
he wanted to know from
Baroness Batsheva de Roths-
child, who sponsors the com-
pany, was whether every-
thing had stopped.
When she said "no," he
took a plane from New York
to Paris and then an El Al to
Lod—and his French assist-
ant Dominique Pe followed
soon after.
