He joined the univer- sity in 1946. ,Dr. Turin, who also was an adjunct professor of physics at the Medical College of Ohio, was a native of New York and received his PhD in nuclear physics from U. of M. in 1937. He was credited with mak- ing a number of contributions to the University of Toledo engineering program, includ- ing institution of its engin- eering-physics program, one of a few of its kind in the U.S. He also played a major role in obtaining the 40-inch telescope for the Ritter Cen- ter. An engineer in private in- dustry following graduation, Dr. Turin served as an of- ficer in charge of the sub- marine electronics laboratory at the U.S. Navy Submarine Training Command in Pearl Harbor from 1944 to 1946. In 1972, Dr. Turin went to the Soviet Union to partici- pate in a series of seminars on contrasting education sys- tems in Eastern and Western Europe. He was a member of many scientific societies. Surviving besides his sister here are his wife, Sybil; two sons, John and David; three daughters, Tally, Beth Ann and Jenny; and another sis- ter, Mrs. Sally Sussman.
