When printers make a mis-
take, they blame it on "type
lice." But the Jewish News
editorial staff must share the
blame for the error in last
week's edition, which ran the
incorrect date and volume
number on page 1. Last Fri-
day really was Dec. 21, not
Dec. 14.

rest entirely on the conquests
of their former colonial

to Kevin O'Brien, sales man-

O'Brien learned from his
seat partner all about the
United Jewish Appeal and
the work it is doing on be-
half of the embattled Jewish
state.
And so, on landing, he sent
a $10 check made out to the
United Jewish Appeal and
this accompanying note to
his "teacher":
"It's very unusual today to
see an individual so dedicated
to a cause and I know it gives
you great personal satisfac-

For a simple supper and a
change of pace I would like
to recommend this fish cas-

slaw with pineapple chunks
in it for a complete supper.

"As happens so often, the
ad misinterprets Security
Council Resolution 242, which
Israel is said not to have
carried out. The resolution
does indeed speak of Israel's
duty to withdraw from
(though not from the) occu-
pied territories, but also of
her rig'.t to secure boun-
daries. Duty and right are
so interlocked that one be-
comes meaningless without
the other. The ad, as all
Arab propaganda, speaks
only of Israeli, never of
Arab obligations.

never been revoked.
"The deceptive ad accuses
Israel of violating the prin-
ciple that acquisition of
territory by military con-
quest is inadmissable. If this
principle is international law,
as Arab spokesmen main-
tain, why is no country but
Israel assumed to abide by
it? Why, for instance, should
not the Soviet Union restore
the Baltic states to their in-
dependence? Why not Great
Britain evacuate Gibraltar?
Why not France withdraw
from Polynesia, including its
nuclear-test site?
