Religion No Problem
for Hungarian Jews

BUDAPEST (JTA) — The
Hungarian Jewish commun-
ity is celebrating the 25th an-
niversary of the signing of
an agreement between the
government and representa-
tives of the Reformed, Uni-
tarian, Jewish and Evangeli-
cal religions.
During the celebration, the
national agency of Hungarian
Jews and the Budapest Jew-
ish community drew up a
resolution stating that Hun-
garian Jewry has found its
place in socialist society to-
day. They indicated that
Hungarian Jews are no long-
er finding it incompatible to
be Jewish and Hungarian at
the same time.

PHILADELPHIA — Al-
though there have been no
newspaper accounts or any
other announcements from
the USSR, it has been learned
here that the leading Hebrai-

died last month.
In a letter received last
week by Dr. Abraham I.
Katsh, president of Dropsie
University, he was advised
of the death of Prof. I. I. Vin-
nikov, professor of Hebraica
at the University of Lenin-
grad. The letter came from
Dr. Gerard E. Weil, profes-
sor of Bible and head of the
religion department at the
University of Nancy in Nan-
cy, France.
Prof. Vinnikov, who wrote
extensively on the Jerusalem
Talmud and was author of
many scholarly papers, had
