start again, to rebuild."
Despite the feeling of
despair, however, "We reli-
gious people have our con-

don't know what God is plan-
ning, but we know He won't
let His people down . . ."
Hubert Sidlow, in extend-

Representing the Council
of Orthodox Rabbis, the dean
of Beth Yehudah Schools,
Rabbi David Lieberman, said
the lesson to be derived
from the Yom Kippur War is
that "Twenty-five years of
unparalleled progress have
not 'normalized' the position -

He suggested that, in an-
swer to this painful lesson,

reliance on Torah.
Rabbi James I. Gordon,
who chaired the memorial
