HOLLYWOOD — Larr y
Peerce, son of famed Metro-
politan opera star Jan Peerce,
with his current motion pic-
ture "Ash Wednesday," has
emerged as one of the most
inventive young directors.
The film marks his first for-
eign-based venture as well as
his initial collaboration with
Elizabeth Taylor. The story
of "Ash Wednesday" deals
with a subject matter that
has been taboo with movie
audiences for a long time:
the artificially created image
pc eternal youth via face-
g operations in fashion-
auie European hospitals.
Peerce takes us into a pri-

Jewish prayers usually
are recited in the plural.
In the first place, the vir-
tue of the community is
usually more convincing and
contains more grace than the
virtue of the individual.
Thus, the individual falls
back on the virtue of t h e
community and asks the
Almighty to help him be-
cause he is a member of the
community.
Furthermore, ideally, an
individual should never be so
selfish as to have only his
own needs in mind. He
should always consider the
fact that there must be
someone else who has the
same problem. He must,
therefore, ask the Almighty
to send help to all who have
such a problem.
Thus, for example, if he is
ill he must ask the Almighty
to heal all the sick.
The rabbis in the Talmud
say that one who prays for
the needs of another, when
he himself h a s that same
need, will be answered
first.
